Summer Hydration for Performance

Hydration 101

Hydration significantly affects strength, endurance, recovery, cognition, and cardiovascular function. Even mild dehydration can impair physical performance.

Water supports blood volume, body temperature regulation, muscle function, nutrient transport, and mental performance. During summer activity, fluid and electrolyte losses through sweat can contribute to fatigue, dizziness, and reduced performance, making consistent hydration especially important.

Signs of dehydration include: Fatigue, headaches, reduced exercise performance, dizziness, dark urine.

Try This Today

Don’t wait until you’re extremely thirsty to think about hydration. Start outdoor activities well hydrated and replace fluids throughout the day, especially when you’re sweating more than usual.

Measure: Monitor hydration status through urine color and thirst.

Do: Begin outdoor activities well hydrated.

Reflect: Ask whether hydration is supporting performance.
